Custom production of FS mallets is a service with several major advantages. We aim for maximum customer satisfaction as regards both visual appearance and acoustic properties. To achieve this, we offer customers the option to participate on designing their own original mallets. Modification of length, surface finish, alteration of overall weight and, in case of larger orders, also the selection of their own graphics for sticker or other customizing feature – this all serve the purpose of supporting their own vision of sound to be achieved, or is just for the identification of mallets.
In case of one-colour combination of wrapping and stitching of heads for marimba and vibraphone we can offer a proven method of mallets hardness identification using small colour detail located on the inner stitching of the mallet. The methods of direct casting of heads with controlled hardness open up new possibilities in the form of combining various head hardnesses for four-mallets playing. In general, use softer mallets for low-pitched bars and harder ones for higher-pitched bars.
The undisputable benefit of handcrafted production is a guarantee of quality control. The mallets components are professionally selected based on the order. The pieces always come from one production process batch which completely eliminates any possibility of any deviations in the final product. Custom made FS mallets always come to the hands of the customer with a new product warranty. Any possible quality loss caused by long storage of even the best produced mallets is thus completely out of question with us.
We have chosen the path without any compromise. Price of certain technologies used by us in such small production scale grows significantly; however, the resulting quality is worth the premium. Wooden components are machined using CNC technologies. Special attention is paid to the selection of individual batches from one piece of solid wood. Also the other materials machined by turning, like brass or felt heads, are a product of computer-controlled process. Long-term relationships with proven external suppliers are essential for us. Precisely machined semi-finished products are then manually paired based on weight and frequency response. For surface finish we use e.g. grinding, polishing, waxing, impregnation using wax lacquers, polyurethane painting, etc. We leverage the chemistry options to open up a great space for experimenting. New heads for melodic percussion instruments made of various types of durable rubber and sophisticated plastics are a clear proof of that.
